Navigating Turkish Immigration Law & Residence Permits
Foreign nationals residing in Turkey beyond visa periods must obtain a valid Residence Permit (İkamet İzni) issued by the Directorate General of Migration Management (GÖÇ İdaresi).
1. Types of Residence Permits
- Short-Term Residence Permit: Issued for real estate ownership, tourism, or business meetings.
- Family Residence Permit: Granted to foreign spouses and minor dependents of Turkish citizens or legal permit holders.
- Long-Term Residence Permit: Available to foreigners with continuous legal residence in Turkey for at least 8 years.
2. Appealing Residence Permit Rejections
If a residence permit application is rejected or cancelled, an Administrative Annulment Lawsuit (İptal Davası) can be filed in the competent Administrative Court within 60 days of notification, accompanied by a request to stay deportation execution.
